Members

In a toolkit project, members are essential for both management and governance. Initially, only the owner can add or remove members. Member permissions and responsibilities depend on the governance settings, allowing flexibility in how each project is managed.

Adding or Removing Members

The process for adding or removing members varies based on whether governance is enabled:

  • Without Governance: Only the project owner can add or remove members, centralizing control and simplifying membership management.
  • With Governance Enabled: Adding or removing members requires a formal proposal. Proposals must meet the voting threshold for approval, allowing members to have a collective say in key decisions.

Member Permissions and Management

Member roles and permissions differ depending on the governance structure:

  • Without Governance: All members have equal rights and can freely make changes to the project. However, certain critical actions are reserved exclusively for the owner, including:

    • Adding or removing members
    • Transferring project ownership
    • Transferring assets

This setup allows members to manage project aspects independently while keeping essential controls with the owner.

  • With Governance Enabled: In a governed project, any member can submit a proposal to make changes. For a proposal to be executed, it must receive approval from at least 33% of the members. This governance structure encourages transparency and collective decision-making, especially for significant project changes.

Hotkeys

Members also have the option to use hotkeys to enhance governance participation flexibility. Adding a hotkey enables a member to participate in governance on behalf of another member, which is useful for larger teams or if a member is temporarily unavailable. Hotkeys also support the binding of a DFX principal to a toolkit project member, providing a secure and streamlined way to manage permissions linked to specific domains.

Hotkeys add an additional layer of flexibility and security, allowing toolkit project members to engage in governance while preserving safe access and control.
