Getting Started

Starting your journey with a toolkit project is straightforward, but there are a few important steps to ensure a smooth setup. Before creating a project, make sure your toolkit wallet has enough Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) tokens. The approximate cost to start a toolkit project is $17.5 USD, which covers:

  • A minimum of 3T cycles worth of ICP
  • 10 XDR worth of ICP

Please note that these costs and fees may change over time.

Creating a Toolkit Project

To initiate a toolkit project, start by opening the project selection menu. This menu has two tabs: by default, it opens to display SNS projects. To view toolkit projects, switch to the "Custom" tab, where you’ll find any projects you've bookmarked. At the bottom of this section, you’ll see a "Create Toolkit Project" button—click it to begin the setup process.

Step 1: Metadata

The first step in creating your toolkit project is to provide basic metadata. This information helps others identify and understand your project and includes the following fields:

  • Logo – Upload an image to visually represent your project.
  • Name – Choose a name that reflects the purpose of your project.
  • Description – Provide a brief overview of your project to give potential users insight into its goals and functionality.
  • Optional URL – If available, you can include a URL to direct users to additional resources or project documentation.

Note: All metadata can be updated later, so don’t worry if you want to make changes in the future.

Step 2: Cycles

In this step, you’ll select the number of cycles to allocate to your toolkit project. Cycles are essential for powering the canisters within your project, so choosing an appropriate amount is crucial. A minimum requirement of X cycles worth of ICP is needed to activate your project, in addition to a base fee as displayed in the setup modal.

Adding more ICP at this stage will increase the available cycles, providing more resources for your project’s root canister. This flexibility allows you to scale the resources of your project according to its anticipated usage.

Step 3: Final Check

Before finalizing, you’ll be presented with a summary of your project details and the associated costs. Review this overview carefully to ensure all information is accurate. Once you’re satisfied, proceed to confirm the creation of your toolkit project.

This final check is your opportunity to verify your setup before launching, so take a moment to ensure everything is as you intend.

With these simple steps, you’re well on your way to establishing your toolkit project and unlocking powerful tools to manage and grow your decentralized application. Enjoy building and sharing your project with the wider community!
